Women over 50 have come of age in Hollywood. I just read a fabulous post in Vogue by a young writer who is proud of her 63 year old mom and is not ageist at all. Her piece “2020 Continues to Belong to Women in Their 50s” is a celebration of us.
“Fifty-year-old Renée Zellweger is the Oscars’ new-reigning best actress, for her almost-eerie turn as Judy Garland in Judy. The Academy Awards’ other top female honor, best supporting actress, went to Laura Dern. “This is the best birthday present ever,” the Marriage Story star said in her acceptance speech on Sunday night, hours before turning 53 on Monday. Taken together, these wins—on the heels of 50-year-old Jennifer Lopez delivering the best Super Bowl halftime show in recent memory—continue to prove that women in their 50s are owning 2020.” Click here to read more.
Geena Davis, 64 is age defying in her gown. “It’s been a week full of age-defying stars, with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira wowing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show last Sunday, and now Geena Davis is completing the trifecta with her plunging gown at the 2020 Oscars.
Davis, 64, hit the Academy Awards red carpet in a black, embellished gown with a deep v-neck top that transforms into a partially sheer princess skirt — with pockets!”
Let’s take a look at the runway for over 50’s who were recognized for their acting this year.
