The best part of January is the sales. It’s like getting a hall pass to buy stuff that speaks to you on a visceral level – stuff you just know will make a difference in your persona – but won’t actually break the bank or ruin your marriage if you only wear/use/think about it once. I try to use my holiday time and dollars wisely, seeking gifts that will have practical or sentimental value, or better yet, both. While trolling the available options I inevitably find dozens of items that are absolutely P E R F E C T for…me. After one too many January Amex bills that had me breaking out in a sweat, I decided to cultivate the long lost art of patience (chalk one up for the New Year’s Resolution team) and hold off on those impulse buys until they went on sale after the holidays.
Whether you need it, want it, or just gotta have it, “IT” can usually be found for a deliciously discounted price just before your December bills arrive in the mail. This week I was on a bit of a shoe binge. Favored sites cluttered my email inbox with notices of deep discounts. I had already found a classic trench coat for 30% off:
and the perfect saucy shoulder bag to make those bleak mid-winter mornings worthwhile:
All I needed to fill my empty soul was a pair of shoes. There is something about buying shoes that satisfies like little else. A beautiful pair of elegant black suede pumps can melt misery and truly make me a better person. And for some reason, this January in particular, shoe sale have been prolific with amazing selections of both style, color and size…it’s like winning the Trifecta! I have considered the outrageous:

I think I’ll take them all.
