While I am blessed with “good Italian skin,” when I turned 60 this past year I realized I needed to rethink my skincare routine. Since college, I had used Oil of Olay face moisturizer morning and night, just like my Mom and Grandmother. But I kept reading and hearing about all kinds of “potions and lotions” that might help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, minimize dark spots and add needed moisture and hydration to aging skin. I became determined to find a new routine I could stick with, but was overwhelmed with the choices available. I wanted products that were easy to buy online at Ulta or at my local drugstore. So, I did some research on YouTube and found a great video on Drugstore Skincare by Dominique Sachse, a Houston news anchor for three decades who has over a million YouTube subscribers (including me!) Check her video out at https://youtu.be/g4sc8fxQFlM. I watched the video twice and impulsively ordered every single product she recommended – she is quite persuasive and looks much younger than her 50+ years! Five months later, I am happy to say that I am still using almost all of these products (along with my faithful Oil of Olay) as I have seen positive changes to my skin, which feels softer and smoother than before.

I also needed to address my thinning hair (ugh) so after some research I bought a three month supply of Vegamour hair serum, which I use nightly before bed with their massaging brush. I started to see regrowth in thinning areas and saw far fewer strands in my wide tooth comb in the shower, so I have continued using it even thought it’s a bit of a pain in the neck to deal with each night. My Mom is trying it now too. I also take Collagen Peptides each day in my iced tea, which help with hair, skin, nails, joint and bone health.

Below are descriptions and links to all the face and hair care products I use daily in case you would like to give some (or all!) of them a try. As Dominique suggested, I recently asked my dermatologist for a Tretinoin prescription, which you may also want to consider. I have not included body moisturizers, which in another topic that I will save for a future article.
