Fashion over 50For the next few weeks, I will feature more simple and stylish (my version of KISS – Keep It Simple and Stylish) holiday outfits using black as the base color and a wardrobe staple: black pants, skirt or dress.  One casual party look and one dressier look per week.

This week I chose Black and Blue as the color palette; not only because blue is a great color on most people, but because you will stand out from others.  Most women can wear cobalt blue, but don’t feel married to that shade.  A darker sapphire or navy looks sharp as well.  Navy and black, you say?  Yes, you can do this and it is right on trend.  A periwinkle blue would work, too.

I am a fan of leather jackets.  They look cool, sexy and ageless.  You can pick one that looks like a blazer for a more tailored look or pick one that makes you feel like Motorcycle Mama.  Whatever makes you feel great.  You can wear one with pants, a skirt or a dress.  I have one in ivory, black and brown, as neutrals, to go with all my outfits. They come at all price points and if you prefer not to wear animal skin, the faux leather jackets look terrific, too.

The casual look uses the cobalt blue in the top, plus lace, another aspect on trend.  Some blue sparkle in jewelry and using silver as the jewelry tone.  To change things up a bit, gray leather boots. The leather jacket is a mixture of blazer and motorcycle jacket to dress up or down.  Very versatile.

For the dressy black and blue look, we use the leather jacket from the casual party outfit, but this time it goes with a lacey A-line party dress.  Arms are sexy, but covered in lace, for those who are sensitive about showing their bare arms.  Skirt is A-line and figure-flattering for most figure types.  The cobalt blue pops in the necklace, ring and the shoes.  There is sparkle in the earrings and clutch bag.
