I happen to be traveling to Austin next week for a few days, and while friends have suggested that we visit the LBJ Library, the Blanton Museum, and walk the trail around Lady Bird Lake, one place they haven’t mentioned I should check out isĀ United Apparel Liquidators, because they didn’t know about it— it’s been the best kept secret in town.
Until now, of course. TheĀ NY Times reports, in it’s recent Fashion and Style section, that UAL is a store where “a pair of $1,000 Manolo Blahnik leopard-print heels can be had for a relatively paltry $224.” Ā On the UAL website, they advertise that prices are 70-90% off retail. Ā I’m getting more excited to my visit to Austin, I must say.
“Technically, U.A.L. belongs to the booming retail category known as off-price. But where discounters like Nordstrom Rack and T. J. Maxx have a bargain-basement atmosphere and leftover-seeming merchandise, U.A.L. feels like a designer boutique. Imagine walking into Jeffrey in New York or Fred Segal in Los Angeles and discovering itās having an everything-must-go fire sale.”
I’m happy to check out the Austin store…and I’ll be sureĀ to take pictures and report back.
