How did the 4th of July sneak up on us so soon? I still have my calendar page on May! I have been jolted up to date and now I need a list for just about everything! Let’s get you up to speed early so you can just plain enjoy yourself next week.
This is one of the most popular, family filled, action packed holidays of the year. And one that requires a bit more planning than just making sure we have hot cocoa, firewood and blankets in the house. You know as well as I do, we are going to be outside walking, hiking, biking, swimming, boating, picnicking, eating, drinking and general schmoozing! And us BA50’s know that one pair of shoes will not carry us through multiple activities. Knowing this crowd is filled with movers and shakers, let’s get the checklist in order from the bottom up!
Traveling to your destination
For many of us that may mean trains, planes, automobiles and ferry rides, so that requires cover and comfort. You want to keep your feet clean, cozy and covered from the elements. What is better for that than driving mocs and there’s a new name in town – M.Gemi. These shoes are handmade in Toscana – handmade means quality and comfort! These driving moccasins are crafted in soft suede in rich fabulous colors. Hard not to want several to compliment your white crops!
Throw on your linen dress and don these fabulous espadrilles available in florals, stripes or denim, the perfect shoe for shopping around town or dining on the deck. Cool, comfortable and timeless – seriously, how far back to espadrilles go?
Time to pick up the pace?
Even if you are not a bonafide runner and you are going to pound the pavement, you should own a running shoe. The choices in style and function are endless so be sure to define any foot issues before you start shopping (high arches, wide feet, bunions, etc.) Once you zero in on what type of sneaker would be the best for your foot health, then snaz it up a bit. Don’t just buy a big old white or black pair of sneakers; add a pop of color into the mix. It will definitely make you feel a bit more athletic, especially when you look down and are jazzed by what you see. Asics is one of my favorite lines for sneakers and as I always recommend, buy two pair if you are shopping online to be sure you get the best fit. And throw in a new pair of athletic socks in the shopping cart while you are there!
If it is time to head to the hills, you need a hiking shoe to keep up with the leader and be just as comfortable descending the mountain as you were ascending! Head to Merrill Land! If you are a day hiker I recommend the low hiking shoe. This lightweight Moab Edge took me all over Sedona and the Grand Canyon, through scorching desert conditions as well as slopping across riverbeds. They have breathable mesh linings and air cushions in the heels to absorb shock and add stability. 50+ bones need stability!
Finally time for the Moscow Mule or the Blueberry Mojito?
Time to pick up the style a bit for the evening by-the-water- bar-crowd? Let’s give back while we drink! I’ll drink to that. Check out Tom’s Calypso Canvas Wedge. It’s not too high, everyone’s favorite color and has a peep toe so you can show off your pink pedicure. Here’s the bonus – with every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One®.
Midnight walk on the beach?
In the sand, in the dark is not necessarily the best time for bare feet! Pop on a vegan friendly, anatomically molded sandal – now that sounds appealing doesn’t it? Just the facts ma’am. Nothing is worse for your feet than those completely flat thin-soled sandals; you may as well be walking barefoot. Check out these Olu Kai sandals available in no less than 25 colors!
Donning the jammies as guests?
No one really wants your bare feet tapping around on their floor. Pack some sassy slip slips! These Isotoner SmartDri Slide slippers can quietly go from inside to outside, and back inside again. They have padded memory foam in the insole so you can treat your tired feel with a little TLC so you can get up tomorrow and do it all over again!
Bonus Product – Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Carry the best water bottle out there! After an 8-hour hike in 100 degrees, we still had a few ice cubes left to get us back! Check out the S’well Bottle Line – how fashionable are these?
Now go buy a bigger suitcase so you can fit your shoes!
