“You want to shave my face?”
“Yes you will look bright and fresh and it’s called Dermaplaning and then you are going to get some serious moisturizing with cream and serums and you will feel great.”
And she explained that she uses a hand held device with a sharp metal edge across the surface of my skin. It exfoliates by essentially scraping off dead cells while also removing the peach fuzz.”
“But, I barely shave my legs or pits and frankly I can’t believe I even pay to have my eyebrows waxed because they could not possibly remove more than 4 hairs which are virtually invisible to the over 60 eye….
I mean can you show me in the mirror….like what hair?”
“Trust me …. you said you wanted to freshen up your skin, that if feels dull, and by the way you have more than 4 stray hairs around your brows….so trust me and my eyes.”
“Ok, of course, I do not want to grow a beard!”
“Listen, you are great but I have another appointment in 30 minutes.”
“Ok — Ok…I’m all yours.”
My aesthetician was laughing as she assured me I would not grow a beard after she dermaplaned my face. She calmly explained….Dermaplaning essentially means to shave your face with a razor-sharp scalpel. It sounds scary, but it’s seriously popular among those who want super smooth, even-toned skin without using sometimes-irritating chemical exfoliants. It’s a great choice for those with sensitive skin and chronic dryness who want to slough off dead skin cells without irritating their skin in the process.
Her eyeballs looked huge as I snuck a peek through the magnifier under the bright light.
“I was hoping to simply get an eyebrow shaping.,”…I mumbled realizing I was about to be booted out of my chair.
“Wow, you have lots of facial hair and yes it is blond but it can discolor and dull your face. So I think we get rid of it and you are going to love the results.. The dermaplaning removes the dead skin and you will have a brighter look to your face. Trust me.”
I surrendered! I did trust her and I do.
“But, will it hurt? How long will it take?”
“Not long — 30 minutes max and no it won’t hurt. Trust me.”
Ok…. my heart was pumping.
I am such a coward when it comes to facial treatments yet I’m always so fascinated by them. I had no idea that this simple procedure is something people did.
“Ok – Ok shave me. Do it!”
And so it began…
Minutes later, I was fresh as a daisy and truly my face felt silky smooth. I loved it.
“I can’t believe I almost bolted out of this room …thank you for your patience. it’s awesome.”
Ok, now you should do this once a month, and you need to hydrate like crazy and here’s what you should use. You can also do this at home if you like but you may feel more comfortable with a pro doing it for you who can see.
I definitely want the pro, I don’t trust myself.
However, when I got home I looked up the best at home dermaplaning machine and went on Amazon to buy the moisturizers and Serums she recommended.
