When you’re really needing some party shoes for a dancing, wedding or cocktail party – there’s plenty of shoes on line and in the stores. It’s way easier to find practical shoes – but how about some shoes that really transport you to “the other side” that are actually wearable (but not necessarily affordable sorry to say).

Fantasy and  dress up are an inevitable match and some girls just want to have fun. Sadly, my feet are limited as to what shoes they can tolerate — But a girl can always hope can’t she?

Just this week, I went to Saks in NYC with my friend to look for wedding shoes for her son’s big day — I was blown away by what I saw.

Jaw dropping high high heels looking acrobatic, velvets, straps, stones and sparkles were everywhere. Conservative shoes looked like uninvited guests amidst designer’s wild creations. Most of the shoes did not fit the “practical” or “wearable” test – or at least the ones that I was wowed by – but they were fun to look at anyway.

I wanted to share what I found and although there are only 3 shoes in this selection that I could possibly wear — here’s what’s on display  from the 8th floor of Saks Fifth Avenue’s flagship store — one of the greatest department stores of all time.

Whether you view these shoes as eye-candy, or art or inspiration, there’s no doubt you will be amazed by what people are buying for $695 to $895 for their big parties.

Sergio Rossi: 2 women were trying these on and we have no idea how they didn’t topple over. “Very popular”

Andy Warhol meets Lichtenstein designed by Gucci: Shouldn’t these be at MOMA  (The Museum of Modern Art)?

Maybe for a Midsummer Night Dream Sophia Webster designed these Winged Wonders. I have no idea who could possibly take flight in these but apparently they are in demand by “fashionistas.”

Prada you’ve done it again. Velvet plush elegance.  Comfortable except for the price tag (if you have to ask forget about these). Looks like Annie Hall meets the Queen of England for tea shoe.

Which color to buy? Nicolas Kirkwood flat  looking way better than any flat I have ever seen. (However I did find a knock of these at Aldo for $65). These are about $495 and I hate to tell you comfortable. Love the maroon – my friend loved the black.

Ok – doesn’t this look so forgettable compared to the others on this page. However, this Manolo is a go to pump for the cocktail/wedding scene. Again – pricey. Maybe wear it 50 times and amortize the hell out of it.

Nicolas, here you are again – looking conservative and garden party-ish. Is this really a winter shoe or something to take south? Not my style but clever metallic heel.

More Nicholas Kirwood (I love his stuff).

And what about this Nicholas Kirkwood? How comfortable and elegant is this jeweled velvet flat? Don’t you just love the large pearl balls tucked into the heel?

Tabitha Simmons: Velvet slip on easy to wear dress shoes that’s thick and soft.

Lattice Leather Classy Black Strappy Shoes by Donald Pliner

These shoes are perfect for dressy and not so dressy. The pointy toe is not too pointy and the soft calf leather stretched enough so my bunion was never enraged. (Ok I can’t keep a secret – I  bought these)!
