I have been seeing sequins on Hollywood stars everywhere lately. Diane Keaton, Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek and Dakota Johnson all wore sequined outfits at the LACMA Art & Film Gala last week. Adele wore a black sequin gown to her tv filming in London, and Kristen Stewart adorned a glittery silver blazer for her Tonight Show taping last week. It seems that stars are embracing sparkle and shine in their outfits, as more gatherings and parties are held in person and life seems to be heading towards more normalcy.
How do us BA50’s incorporate this trend into our own wardrobes this holiday season? The key is to make the look more modern and less “over the top” by pairing the stand-out piece with something less dressy. An easy and chic way is to wear a sequined or shiny top or blazer with a pair of denim instead of the expected pair of black pants. Or consider wearing sequin striped joggers or satin trousers with a neutral colored sweater or blouse for an effortless and comfortable look. An unstructured stretch velvet blazer with some shine to the fabric (I love the one from Evereve below) worn with a cami underneath is another fabulous choice.
I encourage you to shop your own wardrobe (most of us own something sparkly that has been hiding at the back of our closet) and experiment with making some new, unexpected outfit combinations. If you would like some inspiration or might want to add a new piece or two this holiday season, see my festive selections below.
