Time to Set the Table and Serve What You Love
The current entertaining trend is towards tradition, authenticity and simplicity and this is a wonderful palette for a warm, cozy, heartfelt festive season. ...
Fay grew up in a small town in South Africa in eating typical South African Jewish food, including everything from braaivleis (barbecue) to chopped herring. Some of her earliest memories are of spending time with her mom in the kitchen who encouraged her to develop her natural flair for cooking into a passion for creating beautiful food. Fay believes that her mother allowing her to play and mess in the kitchen developed her love of cooking early on and it is a tradition she’s continued with her three daughters, each of whom has their own culinary flair. Fay completed an Arts Degree at University of Cape Town, majoring in English and History, however, after spending two years working as a teacher, she realised that she would rather turn her passion for food into a profession. Fay attended the Cape Technikon where she completed a three year diploma in Food Science. A job as a home economist at the South African Meat Board followed and she toured the country promoting everything from beef to venison. Once Fay started her family she slowed down and embraced a host of freelance food related projects such as cookery demonstrations, styling food for advertising shoots and writing comprehensive food articles for magazines and newspapers, which featured many of her recipes. This writing laid the foundation for her future career as the author of three cookbooks, At My Table, From My Oven and Be My Guest all of which are published by Random House Struik. All her daughters having completed their schooling, Fay and her husband immigrated to the United States in 2010, making Boston their new home. Fay continues to live food; writing, demonstrating and presenting on the topic enthusiastically.
