Born in Brooklyn before it was hip, Edie Jarolim has worn many hats, including a sombrero on a one-margarita-too-many night. She earned a Ph.D. in literature from NYU and was a guidebook editor at Frommer’s (Simon & Schuster) and Fodor’s (Random House) before moving to Arizona and becoming a freelancer. She has written three travel guidebooks, one guide to dogs, one memoir, three blogs, and hundreds of articles. She lives in Tucson with her terrier-mix, Madeleine, the successor to – but never replacement for – Frankie, featured in the following excerpt from her memoir.
