ICYMI (in case you missed it), the editors at BA50 have been doing some reading for you. Here are the articles we’ve culled from around the Web that intrigued us this past week.
“Paid work, giving back, and relaxation.” has now become the trifecta of retirement strategies. It seems very few older folks want to give up working entirely, but they want to be able to fit other activities in as well. Sounds like a plan!
This article deals primarily with homes in Florida, but the list of criteria could apply to any retirement, or post-family home. “By 2020, nearly half of all American households will include someone at least 55 years old, according to a recent study by the National Association of Home Builders. And that means more Boomers are selling the house where they raised the kids and getting ready to settle into something that’s easier — and more fun — for them.”
“As any medical practitioner knows, uttering the words ‘severe,’ ‘invasive,’ and ‘carcinoma’ to a patient in remission cannot but escalate terror.” So, why can’t they be even a little more sensitive?!?
“You might dismiss all this female primping and preening as vanity or silliness. Yet a fascinating new paper from two sociologists suggests that women do have good reason to spend so much time and money on their appearance: If they don’t, they risk losing a substantial amount of money.”
And finally, we’re not really sure why this woman has become an Internet sensation, but we’re thinking that her infectious laugh and upbeat spirit are what has endeared her to SO MANY people.
