rolodexWho still has a Rolodex? I do. I am ashamed to admit it, but I still have that archaic filing system, equipped with restaurants that I used to frequent in the 80’s, dry cleaners that are no longer in business, and of course, all my passwords for the humongous amount of websites that I visit.

When I was in the corporate world, these things came in handy. I could staple somebody’s business card to one of those little filing cards and I would be all set. I didn’t have to enter their names into a phone, take a screenshot, or employee some other type of technology to keep me dialed in. Right In front of me I could easily find the business card that I needed and be ready for any major corporate decision.

I know. I’m pathetic. But I am making progress. I used to have an even larger Rolodex, which was the size of small condo. It acted like a bookend for all the tchotchkes I had scattered all over my desk.

A few years ago, I thought I threw away this monstrosity, but knowing me, I probably just shoved it somewhere up in the loft in case I needed it later. Did I really think I was going back to corporate life at the age of 57?

One of these days, I will have to tackle that dusty loft and see if I still have it. It’s probably a collector’s item right now, and I could probably sell it on eBay for $15.92.

But until then, I will sift through my smaller stack of Rolodex cards, remembering things from days gone by, and being thankful that I haven’ been completely been sucked in by today’s technology.

Besides, my cats like to chew on the cards, and I couldn’t deprive them of that.
