The 4 percent rule has been followed by many retirees since 1994. It advises them to withdrew 4 percent of their initial retirement portfolio balance, and then adjust that dollar amount for inflation each year thereafter, thus creating a paycheck that will last for 30 years. Some critics are now saying it’s time to bag that rule.
