It was summer this week.  Ok, not really SUMMER but almost Spring.  As in I didn’t have to add three extra layers and make sure I had both gloves before making a bee-line for the garage.  I actually left the cozy confines of my house wearing a light sweater, cuffed jeans with skin exposed, and a pair of cute flats with no insulating socks.  I felt so free and liberated.  I also felt compelled to pop into my favorite stores and see what goodies I would need for the onslaught of warm breezes and sunshine that surely were here to stay.  (Forget the fact that it is snowing as I write this…I KNOW one day it really will be Spring for real…)   Creating my Spring Wardrobe Wish List has proven to be a great distraction from the return of the almost Polar Vortex and the bill from the plow guy.  Here are my picks for easy, breezy, beautiful (and practical) additions to the closet:

A good trench coat.  My inner diva is calling for this Gucci silk and viscose number, but the Bursar’s Office is sending me a different message that is more along the lines of Ann Taylor..equally stylish with nice lines but way more practical …

A metallic pencil skirt. I wanted one of these last year and never got one, and of course the one I wanted then is impossible to find now, but the quest is on.  A pencil skirt goes the distance in any situation and the metallic edge says “I’m practical, but I can also up my game and laugh at myself…”

A full skirt.  Nothing hides winter hips better than a full skirt, and the right fabric can take you from April though the last days of Indian Summer.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this striped number I saw on Pinterest.  Still trying to track down its origins, but the basic simplicity of horizontal strips (surprisingly slimming – who knew) and black and white make this a simple look to copy.  And the leopard flats are calling my name too…

Speaking of which…cute flats in a snazzy print.  Leopard is always in style.  Even on a sweltering July afternoon.  Zebra works well too, especially if you’re more of a black and white kind of person.  Stripes of any calling are always a good thing to have, and they work well with everything from jeans to shorts to prim and proper skirts and dresses.

A simple pair of hoop earrings.  I’m obsessed with larger hoops right now, and these Me&Ro silver numbers seem to work with every outfit that I can concoct.  I think they have magic powers.  If your tastes run to the smaller spectrum, try a simple silver or gold eternity hoop for the same effect.  Hoops lighten up the atmosphere – just what we need after the heavy drudgery of winter. Jewelmint.com has a great selection of delicate and bolder hoops in a variety of metals at very reasonable prices.  Which is great, because I always seem to end up loosing one earring…perhaps just another excuse to go shopping…
