Summer is just around the corner and for many women that means only one thing: it’s time to shed some pounds and get that beach body ready for the sweltering heat of summer. You’ll be invited to summer BBQs and pool parties with your friends, kids and grandkids–so don’t let a few extra pounds keep you from enjoying yourself and spending time with those you love the most.
The key to successfully slimming down is having a plan and sticking to that plan. A successful weight loss program not only involves steady exercise, but a nutritious and healthy diet plan. Healthy eating doesn’t necessarily mean flavorless foods that come in pre-packaged containers so small they leave you wanting another serving and then some. There are plenty of guilt-free recipes that taste great and will not only leave you satisfied, but with enough energy to get you through the day.
Summer is a time for salads; is there any better time of year for crisp, cold lettuce and fresh ingredients you can pick up at the local farmer’s markets? A simple Italian salad made of tomatoes, zucchini, green onions, leafy lettuce and basil will have you licking your lips in anticipation and smiling in satisfaction. For a bit of extra taste, top with some fat-free Italian dressing and add as many fresh veggies as you’d like! The best thing about fruits and veggies is the sky’s the limit: mix and match whatever makes your taste buds tingle.
Speaking of fruits, they can satiate your sweet tooth, be they added to plain yogurt for a burst of taste, or combined in a blender for a tasty meal replacement. By combining raspberries, bananas, vanilla extract, fresh mint and non-fat plain yogurt in a blender you’ll have a tasty mid-day snack that can fit in a to-go cup! If you’re constantly on the go, a blender and some fruit can be your best friend.
If you thought healthy diets don’t include tasty desserts like Triple Chocolate Cake, think again. Even tasty treats like chocolate cake can be less sinful if margarine is substituted for butter, and wheat germ is used in lieu of flour. With enough dedication and research, even the most decadent desserts can be transformed into healthier alternatives. Another thing to remember: keep the portion sizes small; that way you can still enjoy a delicacy here and there.
So, what are you waiting for? The clock is ticking! Sign up for a weight loss program that brings you the best of all worlds before it’s late September and you’re wondering where the heck your summer went.
